Casual Library Clerk

The Town of Fort Macleod Public Library is currently seeking to fill a casual position.  Our ideal candidate is a detail oriented, organized, patient and customer service focused professional who has previous library experience.  Flexibility, multitasking, resourcefulness, accuracy while doing repetitive tasks, the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, good interpersonal skills and the ability to work efficiently and effectively alone or as part of a team with both employees and community members will assist the candidate in being successful with this organization.        

Reporting to the Head Librarian or Alternate this position will be responsible for providing a welcoming, professional library atmosphere and quality customer service while assisting with the provision of quality services and programs. 

Key Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Circulation desk duties, including the charge and discharge of circulation materials.
  • Assist with library program prep and library programs
  • Assist with organization of decorations and programing supplies
  • Assist patrons with public computer use and in-house services and technologies
  • Assist patrons with resource and information retrieval
  • Assist patrons with printing and photocopying
  • Shelve library materials
  • Repair books and materials
  • Assist in compiling statistics
  • Maintain orderliness of the library
  • Maintain excellent public relations with patrons and the community
  • Be knowledgeable of various Town services
  • Assist with collection development through assigned tasks
  • Ability to perform under pressure and in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat.  Including but not limited to Santa Claus Parade weekend, Market on Main, Stories in the Park

Position Requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Transportation for offsite programs, events, trade shows, professional development
  • CSA standard Z1210-17 certificate or willingness to take the training to acquire one
  • Proof of valid and clean criminal record check including vulnerable sectors check or willingness to acquire one

Working Conditions include but are not limited to:

This position is located in a busy library facility, open to the public area office type space.  The person in this position will work directly with the public and other employees in person, on the phone and through various social media platforms regularly.  This position works closely with the Librarian position and is a demanding position which requires meeting deadlines and the capability to adjust to numerous interruptions during periods of intense concentration with varying noise levels.  This position involves diplomatic interactions with the public and other employees and may also require irregular and/or extended work hours.


Rate of Pay: Non union Library Board rate is $15.00 per hour.

Hours of Work may consist of any one or more of the following shifts: Mon & Tues – 9am-5pm, Wed - 12pm-8pm, Thurs - 1pm-9pm

Fri &Sat – 10am-2pm
